How to Make a Log Splitter the Redneck Way

If you aren’t familiar with what a redneck log splitter is you can find out more about them here. Redneck Log Splitter This guy made a video as he built one of the big wheel type splitters that he calls the wheel of death. He builds a couple safety screens for it so it may be debatable if really qualifies for a true redneck wood splitter. Either way it’s an interesting video and could be a good project for Jesse James and Monster Garage.

Disclaimer: This guy is a professional at working with dangerous mechanical equipment. This design is very dangerous so don’t try this at home. I do not in any way recommend or endorse this design. There are much safer log splitter designs available. This page is for entertainment purposes only.

  1. Great job. I love it. Looked at a lot of this type of splitters, and I think you need to slow down the speed a little, but with the diameter of your wheel it might loose power. Thinking of making one myself, but I will make the wheel bigger and heavier, and place the wedge on the side of the rim, not on the outside.
