Hello. This is a pretty new board, eh? Nobody's here yet!
I
have a bunch of pines that need to come down and they would make a
boatload of firewood. Are there any businesses around that would take
down the trees if I let them keep the wood?
Sounds like a
longshot! Usually they charge extra to haul the wood off!

Where are you located and how big are the trees?

Where I am in the Northwest a logger would pay you good money for trees
that size for sawlogs if there were enough to make it worth their time.
I don't know how it is where you are but that might be an option
instead of cutting them up for firewood.

I had considered that. As a handy guy, I use
lumber for all sorts of projects and I wondered if anyone would come
take down these trees to be used for lumber. However, I don't know any
loggers and the lumber companies in my area (Lowe's and Home Depot!) are
clueless where their wood comes from.
There's no entry in the
yellow pages for "sell your trees for lumber".

Lowe's and Home Depot probably don't buy local. You might be able to so
a search for loggers in your area or maybe ask around firewood cutters
or a tree service might know. You might even find someone with a
portable sawmill that would come cut them into lumber and pay you for
the logs or give you some of the lumber if you wanted it.
Craigslist.org
is a good place to find things or post what you are looking for.

I see people advertising all the time on craigslist who have portable
sawmills and they are always looking for logs.

Never try to remove a standing tree that could impact hydro lines during the removal process. Some landfills allow scrap wood removal to reduce the amount of refuse and encourage recycling.
