I recently took down a bunch of hickory trees (bitternut mostly). I
will probably have 12+ split cords and planned to burn it for the next
several seasons. I have been told that hickory doesn't store well and it
may not keep more than 3 years before it becomes "spongy". I googled
it but can find no supporting information. Is this true?

If you leave it out in the rain or in a damp place
it probably won't last long but if you can keep it dry it should last
as long as you want it to. If you don't have a dry place to keep it you
could alway sell what you aren't going to use this year and use the
money to buy more later.
