One of the uses of american basswood is making matches, so there should be no question whether it burns well or not. Basswood firewood is a light soft wood that ignites easy, making it a favorite wood for starting fires. As with a lot of woods that light quickly, it also burns up very quickly.
Baswood is one of the lowest BTU woods in North America so don’t expect it to hold a fire for long. But it is a great wood to have around for making kindling, starting fires, or for when you want quick heat. It is a good wood to put on a bed of coals to get a fire started back up again.
